I got a couple of Mullards from Blaren from 18watt and they showed up yesterday, got a chance to try them out tonight briefly.
They were all trialled in V1 and compared to the Raytheon long black plate that I normally have there
These are the Mullard long plates, supposedly from the 50's and they all sound great. I think I can hear some differences between them, subtle. And I can hear a little difference from the long black plate Raytheon I have.
I'll have to give them a thorough going over during the course of the next week or so, but so far I'm very pleased. I can hear a little chime in a couple, with a huge difference from rolling off the volume on the guitar.
I'm going through my LP studio and the 490 / 498 are hotter, darker pickups, at least in this guitar and with the volume dimed on the guitar and the Trinity SIIIv6 on the el84's, boost off, bottom input, TMB channel, Bass at 3, Mids at 4, Treble at 7, Vol. at 1 and Master on 6. Guitar volume dimed, massive crunch and grind, back off to about 7 on the volume, very nice and clean!
This is going to be interesting!
