Here are some pictures of the first production v6 made for Rob Baker of the Tragically Hip. www.thehip.com

It is an sIII with foot switchable EL84 and 6V6 and boost as well. The turret board is elongated to accommodate the cathode R-C for the 6V6 and there are special eyelet boards for the switching parts.

There is a small rectified DC supply off the 6.3 VAC heaters providing 8VDC for the Relay and Boost board. The v6 kit includes toggle switches for these.

Yes, that's a 5VDC relay. Clips are done by lbet. Will be posted soon in the "Clippage" section.

ooh.. ahh.. :D So nice. I fell asleep at nine, just didn't make it. I'll be answering your email in a few. But I had to add. I have a dozen (yes, 12) RCA blackface 6V6'S (and they're strong). Hmm.. What should I do with them, :)
Great work Coco. I just need a router and I'll be ready to try the cabs. I worked in kitchen cabinets for years. Time to apply that knowledge to a worthy cause.
Jac.
Wait, But the clips, need the clips

Here is a link to my comments in the Clippage section.

I suspect Mr. Baker will like his new amp.

Lawrence,
:D That sounds great!
I'm excited. Coco shipped my kit a couple of days ago. Now I have to wait on Santa. Anthony at Reason built my cabs over a year ago. It's a head and a 212 bottom with semi open back (oval shaped hole). I've got a Wxxxr Bluedog and 1230 -55hz clone each at 16ohm.
Now if I could just play like you....

Thanks Lee. Good for you that you have a kit coming. Sorry about the fat bastard (Santa) holding out on you though. :( I think you are going to like those speakers too. I use a Scumback G12h30 clone and the BBQ 1230-55 in an oval ported cab and it sounds fantastic. I think it is safe to say that alnico ceramic combo you are going to use will please you greatly.

As for the playing, you will want to do much more of that when you get the amp built. :D

Cheers

Wow!!! Stephen great job! Ibet, great playing! What a fantastic variety of sounds. Stephen, will the chassis fit in the head cab I bought from our friend in PEI, you remember, the purple one? Jim

I have to say this, lol. My lighter went into the air, halfway through the clip, for both the Stephen and Ibet. Damn, Damn, Damn. My heart's still thumping.

Stephen,
The amp looks and sounds great. I certainly did not hear it switching (no pop).
Ibet,
great playing.

lol. Lighter indeed.

"Almost" no click on the boost on/off and absolutly no click on the power tube switching. In fact the BOOST switching is so smooth it is almost musical.

(Correction made).

The boost switching is amlost musical. That is where we designed the slight (0.5-1 sec) delay on/off to eliminate the boost pop. Here the cathode resistance ramps down/up rather than a hard on/off.

Coco,
I noticed that you oriented the Sozo caps with the bands away from the ground buss. I was under the impression that the band indicated the outside of the foil and according to Aikens tech article (unless I read it wrong, which is very possible) should go toward the lower impedence side of the circuit. The advantage being a shielding effect against electric field coupling. I'm the "grasshopper" here , so help me out. I want to get it right when I build it.

LeeMo

Edit : I just traced the circuits and it makes more sense to me now. So I answered my own question. The only one that I'm still confused about is c2.

Well, maybe I can learn something too. Send me the link to the article please.

The amp sounds juicy the way they were installed, could it get better?? :D

Only electrolytics are polarized so there is no danger of exploding caps, but I'll check with Sozo and see on your comment!
