Hi fellas -

Been lurking for some time, but met Daz through a different forum. I had a question regarding tranformers.

I'm building my first amp, a Ceri@tone DC-30. However, I wanted the amp to have genuine Matchless trannies. I ordered them from Dave at Westlabs.com and they are gorgeous and HEAVY.

One snag though: the wiring setup is set up differently AND it's not labled. I looked at the schematic, Ceri@tone layout, the Westlabs layout and attempted a side-by-side diagram, CT PT layout vs. Westlabs PT layout. I sent it to Daz, who was eager to help, but unable as he built his clone with CT trannies.

Has anyone here physically built a DC-30 clone and can - wire for wire - walk me through what each one does. For this reason, we'll pretend that we are looking at the PT upside down, mounted in the chassis for wiring.

Left side top to bottom:

Red #1
Red/Yellow
Red #2
Orange#1
Orange#2
Green

Right side top to bottom:

Green #1
Green/White
Green #2
Brown/White
Purple/White
Black/White
Black
Brown
Purple

Please be as specific as possible, or even Photoshop a diagram if you can. Talk to me like you would explain it to your 12-year-old.

I'm a little timid with the project as it's my first, I'm spending too much time making sure my solder joints are good and I'm not touching anything that can kill me. A real paint by numbers explanation would be very helpful. The kit isn't as explanitory as MetroAmp.com's kits.

Ok, this is how to do it.

First Tie off Purple/White & Purple . Then forget about them!!

Then connect Brown/White to Brown
Then connect Black/White to Black

Connect 120 V Line to the Brown/White - Brown
Connect neutral to the Black/White to Black

The secondaries are pretty straightforward.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to assume that the Primaries that connect together are twisted and zipped, right?

It's a crude drawing of the Ceri@tone and Westlabs, side by side.

On the Westlabs, the very short green wire with the eyelet goes to chassis ground, correct? It's the one circled on my diagram. I'm assuming that this is the equivalent of the "E" green wire on the Ceri@tone layout. Let me know if I am wrong.

I'm working on the same build (a Ceri@tone DC-30 w/West Labs transformers) and I'm a little confused about wiring the standby switch. Which lead from the PT gets connected to the standby switch? The only standby switches I have ever worked with went between the rectifier and filter caps. Nik's layout seems different than that. Any thoughts?

I know this is a VERY old thread, but someone on ax84 was asking about this transformer because they have no documentation for it. Do you recall how to wire it for 230V/240V primaries?

They were also asking about the 15W set.

Here is the Westlabs docs for the transformers we used to use. 220 V hook up in diagram.
