I asked a friend of mine to look at the v6 schem/layout. His is what he said.

Quote:
I like the preamp, but I'm a bit wary about the output section. Floating the cathodes of the valves that aren't used puts a large potential between the heaters and the cathodes. They really aren't designed to be used that way. And there is a bunch of stuff hanging from the grid circuits. It might not be as bad as it looks at first glance, but it certainly looks messy.

The drawing is slightly wrong. He shows the signal from the PI going to the suppressor grids of the 6V6s. It should go to the control grids. But he has the pin numbers right. Pin 5 is the control grid, so the connection will be right, even though the drawing is wrong.

Some clarification would be nice.

Thanks... :)

Numerous discussion were held on the effect of the design and several theoretical discussions as well before we tried it. We did try it several ways as well.

There have been no ill effects in almost two years so in practice it's fine.
Further, this is the same approach that Mesa took on their Blue Angel.

Schematic updated. Thanks for the tip.

You might want to look at the DC30 schematic half power switch for another example of switching In/Out tubes.

8) Nice

You might want to get the resolution a bit higher on the schem. Its quite hard to read. It would also be nice if you you could make both the schem and thee layout bigger. It just a bit hard to read at the moment.

Thanks

On the layout there is a 56K and 820 resistor. On the schem they are labelled 1W on the layout they arent labelled 1W.???

Do you have a parts list?

They are 1/2 watt but 1 watt is fine too.

Another little thing the 1.5K resistors on the 6V6 tubes...can those be 1/2W?

Also is it possible to get a v6 kit which has a TMB channel, normal channel and trem?

No. 2 Watt

TMB - Yes
Normal Channel - Yes
Tremolo - No. Unless you punch another tube hole and put the control on the back. Try a pedal or Area 51 for Trem.

An extra hole can always be punched if you know where you want it. But the bigger problem is that the panel has no labels for tremolo and a custom panel is quite expensive.

Ah its fine. I just finished a Vibro Champ. I use it for trem, it sounds so nice.

O ya the v6 layout that is in the documents forum is that sIII or Plexi voiced?

sIII voiced but you can easily mod to Plexi if you follow the Plexi layout.

Haha...

Would a good wattage and resistance be for bleeders?

Also can you have a switch and jack to choose between boost and tubes?
