I've heard it and it's good. Not Tone Tubby good, but good.

I've had a 30 watt Alnico Blue Dog in my 18 watt TMB. It sounded good but I still preferred the 25 watt Greenback. This is just so subjective. For instance I hated the G12H30 when I tried it and some folks swear by them.
I haven't tried a Tone Tubby, probably the only thing I haven't tried.

I have a Greenback in my 18W and I think it's a match made in heaven. (how corny is that!). I was just debating whether I should sell my Blue Dog or not. I had bought with the intention of throwing it in a Vox AC15 but never did get the amp.

I have a Tone Tubby ceramic in my DRRI and it's a perfect match. I would imagine that it would sound great in the 18W as well.

The Celestions, Greenbacks anyway, have a scooped mid-range that gives them a classic rock sound. This becomes apparent only when you A-B them side by side with other brands. E.g Tone Tubbys which have a broader and flatter response.

It depends what your after. Read over brents review of several speakers for the TC-15. That was enlightening. viewtopic.php?t=1195

Stephen et al, I'd be happy to do a similar rundown of all my cabs with the 18 Watt if I could get one in here for a short while.... Let me know if this would be helpful...

You bet - any time!! I'll bring the v6 over. But I'll put a VRM in it first.

Cool - this will be fun! Hey Stephen, any chance that JTM would be healthy for this little shoot-out as well?

No, it lives in London, Ontario. Not that he didn't want it! It was a convertible closed/open back and switchable 412 mono/212 stereo

This sucks!!!! You went and built it while I was on one of my losing my brain times.
Man, that is awesome. and the sound., well, that's what we wanted. The name is still the "Trinity 45", I really like that.
Soon, Soon, I'll own one.
Thanks for building it. Just need the kit.
What a sound, nice job Ibet. Ya know it will always suck that you get to play them 1st.
  :D :D :D :D

Yes, very true. I happen to think that for Classic Rock the 18 with the 25 Watt is el perfecto for me.

Brent found that he liked the 75 Watt Celestions and V-30's. I have a Marshall 2x12 with 75 Watters in it and I agree with his findings. I have had the cab for 17 years and it perfoms well with most amps I have tried. Guess I like the scooped mids. On the other hand, I am no fan of the V-30. These have never pleased me in any application.

Just so we're clear, I preferred the V30's and 75W celestions with the TC-15 head. I may have a totally different impression when I try the 18 and JTM. FWIW, I have 3 Marshall heads (a JCM800, JCM900, and a Rockytop Plexi clone) and my favourite speaker with those heads for the most part is the Greenback, followed by the Fanes in my Hiwatt cab, and the 75W celestions. V30's aren't my first choice with those heads...

Hope this helps.
