Is C2 tied to the tag board mounting bolt? It looks like the other side of C2 could potentially hit the mounting bolt on that side as well. Which layout did you build to?

usually means a cable or equipment problem. What happens when the guitar is also plugged in. An open end makes a great antenna.

build to design and lets go from there. the grid stopper is off V2 on the build

:D This is a great kit and has got me hooked on tweaking and researching
stuff I really enjoy.Slowly but surely I am learning the ins and outs
Thanks to Stephen for a great classic sounding amp.
With that...
I think I got most of the problems worked out
Flabby fuzziness gone(change of speaker  )
Sweet clean sounds with the strat really nice tones from normal channel.that sparkly sortof overdrive TMB channel SRV kinda tones
really nice too.
Humbuckers....well... my LP and Jackson...well I guess I need help
tone just isnt there overdrive and or distortion just not happening
did most if not all gain mods to no avail.... :(

any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

if it sound good with singles, and not with humbuckers, id mess with the input impedance, at least, its what i do with pedals (higher=brighter so i guess here is the same ;-)

IMO, the TMB has plenty of gain/overdrive.

1. try 12AX7 tube[s] with a reputation for higher gain
2. Jump channels
3. add 25 uf across R9, cathode bias for V2.
4. plug into Hi Input; vol on 10 on guitar
5. change input impedance [in the manual]

thanks applied all of these and cranked it  Holy Crap
sounds great (LOUD) with LP and Jackson HB's:D
If available wondering if the VRM mod would help my family's ears
and recording...
(I need to feel the notes as I play )
I'm still going to experiment with the low end sorta muddy for lead notes
got a buddy with a wood shop helping me put together head a speaker cabs... said he has some mahogany .
Saw pics of cabs elegy made and will model after those(they look very nice)

Try a 25uF/50V on the power cathode bypass cap instead of 220 like elegy did.

Any suggestions for the boost hole on the back chassis of my TMB build
any switchable mods or such?

Greetings 1412!
The schematics and layout drawings for the sIII, V6 and Plexi (in the Resources section) each show the implementation of a hard switchable boost.
If you're feeling really adventurous you may try the "soft boost" circuit shown here...

Hope that helped...
