I'm about to purchase a v6 and I was wanting to find out what brand of tubes is recommended for the power tubes and the rect tube. I already have a handful of preamp tubes that I plan on using.

My last amp had groove tubes 6L6 (fender concert). The amp before that, a mig 60, had JJs and then EH EL34s. The JJs asploded when the output transformer died. Blue arcing inside a tube so that it looks like one of those plasma lamps is bad.

i know some guys are religious about what brand tubes they use, but different tubes are good for different jobs. I'm wanting to have acceptable headroom, but I still want to be able to get some power tube crunch when pushed.

Use JJ's and RCA 6l6's. What a combo.
Anyone disagree? Hey, I'm trying to be slightly inexpensive, ya know.Just me, lol
Good luck, Trinity Rule's
Jac

the v6 uses el84s and 6v6 (not 6l6).

i was thinking about going jjs across the board except for preamp. i really liked the way those jjs sounded in the mig before the ot blew up.

I have JJ 6v6's in mine along with 6n14nEB's (ex cold war Russian military) for the el84 spots and NOS for the pre's from the sarge. Really good prices and he knows what is good for tube amps, just have to try to understand him :D

The circuit wakes up with the right tubes.

I meant Sgt. Overdrive

I'm very pleased with service and prices. :D

He can be a bit obtuse to converse with, but he knows tubes :P :P

Thanks for the link! I really need to find a new supplier of NOS tubes. About 7 years ago I bought a nice stash from KCA. I did a couple of small orders recently and the tubes (and prices) were a bit disappointing. His stock has been "cherry picked" to say the least.

My stash has been pretty much used up as well. I need a new "tube guy". About a year ago I noticed everybody was using this guy sarge and I emailed him but I lost the link. I was hoping this would be it and it was. Thanks for hooking me up.
