The mesa v30 seemed to have a fuller midrange. Not as thin as the TT Alnico. Otherwise very comparable. Bit richer sound.

I agree with you guys. This is quite an education for me. I have never had the opportunity to listen to so many speakers with the same amp/settings before.

The sonic responses of the cabs and speakers are quite astonishing to someone who never has tried to articulate this type of thing before. What an education!

A big thanks to Brent for doing this work and providing us all a bit of schooling on this. I, for one, have learned a bunch.

And, as ever, thanks to coco, for sharing with us and allowing us to experience sound through his amps in a way we wouldn't otherwise have a chance, without bias and marketing slant.

I'm all over the TC with the Mesa V30s, clip and otherwise!! FWIW, we liked the Mesa V30s in the room the best too. Garret my assistant liked the Mesa cab with all the amps the best - I liked it with everything also, but with Stephen's Marshalls I had different favourites... you'll have to view the other polls to find out!!! Ha ha

Anyway, hands down it's the TC-15 with V30s for me. Like the Tone Tubby Alnico a lot too for more hi-fi applications, but the V30s rock harder...

I can't decide between the mesa and the greenbacks. I keep playing them back and forth and changing my mind on which I prefer. They sound different, but I really like them both. Mesa has the chunk but I like how the greenbacks smooth everything out. These clips are great! Thanks for doing this.

TT alnico is sounding beautifull here.

This one was a no contest for me. Both the TT's worked. All the Brit speakers were a little too scooped & "boomy". I dunno - maybe I just like how hairy the TC sounds & the TT's just lean on that.

However - I do agree that the Mesa V30's were pretty cool. V30's seem to work well with just about anything really. That's why I love 'em.

Yeah, I only have a DR Z open back cab with Celestion Blues here that I will plug my little TC-15 head into....when I order it soon!

Amen. This is the first time I've gone through these clips, and it's blowing my mind. I haven't voted yet, because I really need to hear them again. I've eliminated a few choices off the cuff (some have surprised me!), but I haven't zeroed in on the best one yet.

The closest I've ever come to this sort of thing, ironically, was in the last week at home. I built a little box from simple Radio Shack parts to let me switch my amp between two completely different speaker cabs:
- Avatar 2x12 (currently closed back) with a pair of Celestion Golds (4 ohm parallel)
- Lopoline Open Back 2x10 with an Eminence Ragin Cajun and Eminence Copperhead pair (4 ohm parallel)
I was astounded by how different my amp/guitar/pedals sound through these two simple cabs, but I expected some difference given the giant differences (alnico vs. ceramic, closed vs open, 12" vs. 10"). But the clips on this thread sound drastically different even without all of these differences in play between different clips.
