I have four . A small XCELITE for fine work, one for COAX with pre-set diameter holes, a diamond side cutter type and a one hander (similar Grip-N-Strip End Stripper) that I've had for years. The one hander is great for quickly strippping my 20 guage solid core material.

I know someone posted their choice for the one hander*, but generally speaking what snippers do you use and prefer?

Eureka, I think I found my original tool. It's a "Cables To Go Self Adjusting Wire Stripper" Mine is green /yellow, this one is Racy Red. I have to go and get a set and see if it's as good as my original set!

Stephen, I use mainly thermal strippers for the Teflon wire.

Are you mainly looking for info on diagonal cutters?

Depending on your definition, those are one handed. You can set the length of stripped wire at the end and the wire size automatically adjusts.

Stripper in one hand, wire in the other, same length of stripped wire every time.

They work better than any other strippers I have seen and don't nick the wire. Only issue is that they are a bit on the $ side.

Next build I'm bringing them home while I'm building.

I'm still using a kitchen knife. Probably about time to treat myself to some nice strippers (wire strippers that is...)

For strippers I've used nothing but Meisei Hotweezers™ since 1983, as shown here:

These are best used on Teflon wire which makes up about 95% of everything I've worked on professionally since the 80's.

At the low end of the money scale are the Ideal T-strippers. Used correctly these things have never let me down in a pinch. There is no reason anyone should be using a kitchen knife when these cost about $8-10 bucks (and no cheaping out and settling for the $4 dollar hardware store version... not kidding! ) If anyone wants to know what "correctly" means just ask.

For "no shock" diagonal cutters I use only Zircon or Lindstrom, and Diamond for heavier wire. "No shock" is required for trimming the component leads of glass bodied parts, diodes, some resistor types, etc... so these parts don't fracture when you trim them after soldering.

For the outer jacket on coax or multi-conductor wire (Teflon or PVC), I use a very sharp single edged razor blade.
