OK, so I've barely started building the sIII V6 and I've already got a question...
I'm wondering about the tube retainers on all the tubes- are they necessary or prudent? I'm guessing it's mostly just not a bad idea because eventually you might have to work on it while it's tube and turned over.
What about the full coverage for the 12AX7's? Are they necessary for shielding or something?
I was showing this all to my wife (I'm building it for her ;]) and she wanted to know why she wouldn't be able to see all those great glowing tubes.

I have an SIIIv6 that I built and I leave the tube retainers on the pre's off.

I've tried it with them both on and off and can't tell the difference.

They are useful for upside down amps, Radio Frequency shielding, holding the tube firmly in place and protecting tubes from errant elbows while working on or transporting chassis.
