OK - Keith & Stephen suggested I do a thread, so here goes.First, here's a pic of the kit before I went to work...

Image

Those of you with sharp eyes will see I would have to mod this chassis slightly. First one to catch is gets ... well ... nothing really beyond kudos!

Tonight I started the board, and in my usual fashion it ended up fully loaded before I was done.

Image

I don't have everything properly soldered in yet. Some stuff is just tacked there until I add the off-board wiring. That probably won't be happening until the weekend. For a change I actually have a life this Friday!

I have officially decided I prefer turrets to eyelets. Easier to do a tidy job & a tad simpler to mod (or correct!) stuff later IMO. Just personal taste really.

I have also realized that it is impossible for me to take a properly aligned picture!!! :D

And so it starts. I know the answer but I'm not telling except it was my mistake.

My lawyers told me not to comment on it until the pending litigation is over

Tube order was placed. Pretty standard fare...I suspect. Mostly the usual suspects.

3 - 12AX7 Tung-Sols
1 - JJ EZ34
1 - EH EF86

but i tried something different with the EL-84s as opposed to the JJ's I see in everything theses days.

I ordered these...

May not be any different, but hey......be adventurous 8)

meh - no worries bro. Only so many things fit into the human brain at a time. We'll blame it on Keith for waiting until you were insanely busy to place his order!!!

Gave me an excuse to hit the tool section after work yesterday too. More tools is never a bad thing!!! :)

No need to sweat that stuff......besides we need something to prevent Emo from getting the amp completed in one night

More progress...to put it mildly!!!

OK - I installed all the hardware yesterday & pre-wired everything that made sense. Unfortunately I forgot to take a pic.

Today I installed the board & completed the wiring. Here's a pic of the guts...

Image

You might notice that I improvised a little with the heater wiring off the PT. The kit was missing the 5-lug terminal strip that's supposed to mount there. I came up with this as a temporary fix until I get a terminal strip. In case anyone is wondering, those single-turret strips are mounted with 1/2" plastic stand-offs so they're nowhere near the chassis.

As you can see I decided to install the crunch/munch switch, the boost switch, and the push-pull volume pot. I figured why not - I was in there anyway & what's a few more solders?

You might also notice that the tube pins are oriented a little differently than shown in the layout. I assume that's because the Belton sockets are not the same orientation as the ceramics Trinity had been using. I noticed this same thing when I built my 2204 using Belton sockets.

Anyway, here's pics of the front & back. Just waiting for tubes. I'd test out channel 2 using tubes I have kicking around but I don't have a rectifier for it.

Overall it was a fun build. Looking forward to firing it up!

Next up...TRIWATT!!!

You are as fast as AJ from KL. We'll see who builds the TRIWATT fastest.

Andrew has an advantage though - he's picking his kit up! Mine has to get to Newfoundland first! :)

Actually, depending on when it gets here I might be delayed getting to it. A friend of mine will be home from the Middle East for a couple weeks late March & early April. Rest assured once I get at the thing it won't take long!

Looks like I'll have prizes when I get to the office tomorrow!!! :D

Hopefully the thing doesn't explode when I fire it up! Have to do some pre-checks first, but with any luck she'll be running tomorrow night.
