This is probably a really simple thing, but I can't seem to get my spare speaker jack to work. It is wired probably. Should I be able to plug into either jack or do I only use the spare jack if I have two speakers plugged in. I can post picks if I need to. Grounding issue perhaps. All else working great now...and sounding marvelous. :P

The Tweed is designed to only be effective IF the internal speaker is disconnected. The extension jack is switched on when the internal speaker is disconnected. I assume that's the way it's wired.

Hmmm...I'll rewired today and see what's up. Perhaps the jack is bent and not making proper contact. If only one jack can be used at a time, why have 2?

It's switched because OT has only one impedance, 8 ohms

Yeah, I get that part Stephen  but why have two then? I'm missing something I think. Since you can only use one at a time, why not just have one. I'm just curious.

So my switched jack isn't working or is wired wrong...probably.

I guess it's to prevent people conecting up two at the same time and mismatching impedances but allows you to leave the inside speaker connected.

I'm going to have to call you or have you draw me a diagram. I thought the internal speaker was supposed to be disconnected for the spare to work...but your last post said the extra jack allows you to keep the internal speaker connected. I hate when I can't figure out the obvious.

I'm checking the schematic. I may have misled you...

coco,

I've never seen a Fender where the internal speaker jack doesn't ground if the speaker is unplugged. The external jack is usually just wired in parallel with the internal jack. Fender always said that their OTs could take it. Of course they never expected anyone to turn the amp to 10!

I have also seen newer amps that have the jacks setup so that when you plug into the external jack it switches in a different tap. This lets you add an external speaker with the same impedance as the internal speaker but matches the taps correctly. I've also done this myself on amps where I didn't have room for an impedence selector.
