Just a newb here, don't know much about nothin'. But I always wondered what a Celestion Alnico Blue with a G12 would actually sound like. Then, I found this by accident:

This amp is absolutely amazing, and this speaker combination is probably sound so good in this amp. Enjoy - unless of course you already have.

Like the Tone Tubby Bomb maybe. One Alnico, One Ceramic so you get the best of both worlds. Great bass, clean highs, nice compression all in one [albeit bigger] package.

When you say one Alnico (you mean the TT Alnico 12" with a TT Ceramic "40/40" 12" See: http://www.tonetubby.com/ts.html

I'm sure you've already ordered from there. Coco - are you Stephen? Thanks again.

You're right on both counts :P :P

If you look on the home page, Trinity is also a TT dealer, and will even break them in before sale if you want him to.
Most speakers need to be "broken in" after manufacture to settle into their final tone.
When new, most speakers from any manufacturer tend to be "stiff" and can be shrill or brittle.
Depending on the speaker may take anywhere from a few hours to tens of hours to settle into their relaxed zone.

Hope this helps :D :D

I use a TT bomb, got my speakers from TT and i can say they definetly need to be broken in. i probably only have about 100 hours on them but its a major difference.

I friggen love the bomb config... interestingly i dont particularly love the speakers on their own. The ceramic seems dull and the alnico seems harsh, together it's nirvana. They are by no means bad on thier own but thy just don't ahve that mojo, seems like it's missing something compared o the bomb. I think a lot of this will change with more break in time. I usually mic the alnico... I need another 57 so i can mic both. :)

And just for another point of view, while I think the bomb is cool, two alnicos is the nirvana for me... way more focus, purity of tone. For me having two different speakers kind of dilutes the cool qualities of each... but, for the record, I feel that way about all speaker combos, not just the TT's... I'm sure everyone's mileage varys a bit on this one!!!

.

you could be right but as i said im not a fan of the single alnico on its own and i couldn't afford dual alnico. :) what started out as a compromise ended up as a win for me. I'd love to hear a 2x12 alnico setup though. :)
