Could a fellow use the unused 5k tap on the R/S clone opt as a U/L connection?.......Or have I inhaled too much solder fumes over the years?

Seriously though...Have you ever used U/L in an EL84 amp like the 18?

The original OT had UL taps. We had them altered slightly to 5K [as close to half] so we could to get the Crunch/Munch Lightning effect!

Graydon Stuckey did this to a pair of 18W amps, to use for hi-fi. He says the trick worked pretty good. It made the amps run much cleaner.

U/L is Ultra Linear. When in U/L mode the screens are fed from special "U/L" taps on the opt primary instead of a node in the power supply. It was big in the HiFi industry and some builder still use it on Musical instrument amps.
