Your soldering of the filter caps - looks a bit suspect. Doubt that is your issue, just throwing it out there.

More pics.
Bought JJ EL 84's, Tungsol 12ax7, EH ef86, and a sovtek 5AR4.
Also have a set of TAD EL84 to try out.

I know, I said that I didnt think it was a problem.

Merely saying it wasn't doing any good though. 8)

Oh man 2 hours at local electronics market, and none had the right cap.
I did find a ceramic cap with the right specs, but those are not right?
They have silver mica caps with the right specifications at the BBQ shop, will those do.

@Kurtlives, no worries, appreciate your input anyway :D

Ceramic caps will work..some say they added "gridiness" to your sound, some say they are nosier than Silver Mica.

Then there are people so say Silver Mica are harsh, bright and non-musical :?

You can use any cap with the right value and voltage rating. I would use a Silver Mica in the end.

Ok, i've been searching for errors, and found a few.
Theres is sound in all channels.
But for all channels the sound is dull and distorted.
All the tubes are brand new, and i tried to swap output tubes, and preamp tubes, same result.
Also tried different speaker.....same same.

Anybody got a suggestion.

The Cathode resistor in this pic is way wrong. Looks like you swapped the 120 ohm 5W with 1K5 5W intended for the can cap. Please check that!

Master volume wiring looks fine. The Blue & Brown do go to different terminals, correct?

Let me know what parts you need & I'll send them over.

Looks like the polarity of the first 25uf electrolytic cap from the right side is reversed. Negative goes the other way. Please check.

Thanks Stephen.

I spotted the reversed cap myself, but not the cathode resistor, and that did the trick, and the amp sounds great allthough i think it breaks up quite early.
I like the cut knob, makes it easy to dial in the right tone.

I will try and get the parts myself, if i can find them.
It's only those 3 resistors.
Unless they are special....

Btw, what is the difference between the different kinds of resistors.
Are there sonic differences f.ex between the blue 100 k, and the smaller 100 k resistoers>

Ok, iv'e been playing around for a while, and the more i play, the more i am convinced something is wrong.
Theres just not enough juice.
If i want a nice clean sound without breakup, it is far from loud enough.

Any suggestions is appreciated. I am clueless....

Don't get me wrong, it sounds great, but i wont be able to gig with it.
Even those small clubs i gig in.

Please measure the voltages and post them as well as compare them to the manual.

Can you give some examples of where the controls are under these circumstances. I've heard this amp gigged in decent size venues and it's plenty loud for that.

Found an error which i corrected, and then i measured voltages.
However i did get more juice after correcting the error.....
Pin 3 on V5 wasnt connected.......i just went straight to V4.

Anyway.
Goes like this

Code:
[b]Pin:      1       2       3       4       5       6       7       8

V1           135     -     1.19      -       -    136.3     -       1.2

V2           165     -    1.2        -       -    261.9     -    167.5

V3           243     -   64.2        -       -    244.3     -      64.4

V4             -       -   7.48     -       -       -      358      -

V5             -       -   7.47     -       -       -      357      -

V6             -       -     -       -       -       -       -     362

V7            85     -    1.64       -       -    120       -      1.67[/b]

V3 pin 1 looks suspicious, as do V7 pin1. Also pin 7 on V4 and V5.
And V6 pin8.
Off course i have no clue of what this means.....

Anyone....[/code]

:-)

Actually they both did
Changed that already though, but thanks for pointing it out.

The amp still sounds gorgeus.
I can almost nail Robben Fords sound on talk to your daughter:-)

Stephen, looking forward to your comment.

Thanks

Nicolai

You have nailed the voltages. I think it's perfect. Now Enjoy!!

Glad to hear it "sounds gorgeus" , it should. Some clips - please?
