The TC-15 design incorporates parallel triodes in the first preamp stage. I'm trying to figure out what this accomplishes as compared to running a single triode. In trying to wrap my brain around this idea, I've turned up very little useful info on the Internet.

My simplistic theory is that since the incoming signal is divided between the triodes, overall signal gain remains the same as if a single triode were used. For the same reason, the parallel triodes would be able to handle a much hotter signal before clipping. I'm unsure how much clipping actually occurs in the first gain stage anyway, but to me this would seem to be the main result....clean boost in the first stage.

So, if anyone can shed some light on this......
Am I correct in my assumptions regarding gain & clipping?
Does this configuration impact the tone otherwise?
What would happen if the cathodes were connected independently with non-matching resistor/cap values?

Any input? (Pun, regrettably, intended)

Parallel triodes increase the gain and touch sensitivity. Disconnecting one of them is a way to clean up the amp.

Here's a thread on 'cleaning' up a 15: viewtopic.php?t=544

Great info in that thread. Thx much coco! How do you keep track of all these old threads? I'm sure this one turned up when I was searching the forums, but it wasn't one I happened to read thru.

FWIW, I'm not actually thinking about messing with the TC-15 design at this point, but I'm very tempted to play with the parallel triode configuration on my Chimp amp....which is why I was asking about the non-matching resistor/cap values. I may just have to try it and see.
