I have had two builds where I forgot a simple ground wire. I spent hours (literally, hours) tracing the wiring, but for some reason kept missing the wire I forgot to put in.

Take another look at the wiring, use a highlighter to eliminate what is there on the layout. if you did miss a wire you might catch it.
