I have a combo chassis with room for only six tubes but would like to try using the TC-15 layout as a base to get the Soho sound. Can that be done if I drop the seperate treble and bass controls and replace them with a tone control instead? Maybe another option is using ss rectifier. How would that affect the overall sound?

Changing the pre-amp (tone controls) would have no impact on the number of tubes used.

Unless you used a completely different style of pre-amp which would change the sound. :(

You could go with the SS rectid=fication which would allow you to drop the rectifier tube.

Thanks for the reply. I was discussing this with my neighbour who builds the Kingsley amps and he said if I substitute the treble and bass for a single tone control I wont need V2. Gonna make up a layout and run it by him again.
