Hello,
I have built this Deluxe kit last year. Everything worked fine. I haven't use it a lot, though (less than 5 hours, maybe...).
But, the last time I used it, my rectifier tube went out. I have seen on other forums that it sometimes happens with sovtek 5y3.

I would like to know if I can replace with 5u4 (I have some in hands) without any trouble or I will blow transformer, output tubes or capacitors. I will order NOS 5y3 (I don't thrust sovtek anymore, got issues with other tubes too) if I can't put 5u4.

Thank you

A 5U4 will probably deliver higher voltages. You can try it and measure it to see, but if it exceeds 400V DC with tubes installed, I would wait for a 5Y3. I havent heard bad news about that Sovtek rectifier. This is the first time.

I have ordered a NOS 5Y3GT today. I am presently building a head cab for the deluxe (my past playing was made with the bare chassis...)...
I will post some pics when it will be done...

A wise decision. Sovtek 5Y3s aren't true 5Y3s and don't drop as many volts as a true 5Y3.

Using the Sovteks does give you higher voltage. This gives the Tweed tone a little more headroom. Definitely drop down to the NOS if you want to brown out the sound some, or put in a VRM and get it all!

True. I was forgetting for a moment that we're talking about the Trinity Deluxe, with a more robust OT and the VRM option, rather than the regular kind. :D

What exactly does the VRM? If I understand, it drops the B+ voltage?
I would need some kit of attenuation because it's very loud for a practice amp.
How much is the kit + shipping to Quebec.

How does it color the sound? Some master volume makes the sound less organic and dull.

Thats one thread on what it does and there are a few others in the tweed section. Like you I am waiting for a VRM, more for more tonal control then volume control. I find that I can control the rapid increase in volume by using all 3 controls. As I am normally using this with drums, a triwatt and a fender ss bass amp( where is the trinity bass amp?) I don't have the volume issues that some do.
Some of the thread have good pics of the install, some are good examples of learning how to avoid mistakes in the install.

If I recall correctly the VRM is 25usd sent anywhere, check with coco.

The VRM is Trinity's version of the popular VVR circuit, which you can find out about in a lot of places on the net.

I already have the design of that one in my head - based on a well-known vintage bass amp, but with 100W from a pair of KT88s or 6550s.
