They're a little too bright sounding for my tastes. I wouldn't use them in an EL84 based amp myself...

I would agree. I like the reissue Mullards in that type of amp. But, if you're playing primarily clean the detail & sparkle of the TS is awfully nice.

Yes, but we're talking Marshall 18W amps here, which aren't by nature clean amps. :twisted: :mrgreen: Plus, most EL84s already give plenty of that bright sparkle, and IMO any more than that gets ice-picky. For other kinds of amp, I would say TSs could be a pretty darn good choice. :D

Agreed. (but what if it's the V6 version... :))

I know a few 18 watt players who want a clean sound and a crunch sound as well. It's all good. So, in the sIII, V2 is a good place to put that tube.

Why specifically in V2 and why specifically in the sIII as opposed to the other Trinity 18 watts?

[If you don't mind my asking!] :D

It leaves the normal channel alone and crunchy (in the sIII, normal is the 18 watt trem voice);
The sIII TMB channel is cleaner of most TMBs to start with; and
It would have a clean/brighten effect on the sIII channel only.

Then a T-S might well be a great choice.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. :D
