I think it turned out pretty good.

Mostly Maple 3/4 ply loaded with a V30 clone from Warehouse. Plan to cover black bronco tolex w/ white piping.

Looks good. That maple on the front might be nice to feature.

Good suggestion. :D I was kicking around the idea of a bright wood dye or pigment kind of like a maple top PRS guitars. I was thinking a red, burgundy or a blue maybe even ebony. What do you all think? Is this type of wood treatment difficult to use?

Also, any ideas out there on how to make this look good. Links to examples of using the tolex and finished wood together and still having it look professional would be great.

Frankly how to finish the cabinet is giving me more anxiety that building the amp :bugeye: ( I haven’t started testing yet so that may change). I appreciate your input and feedback.

Peace
J

Use grillcloth on the baffle, use a neutral or colored grain filler on the wood following directions
Stain to the shade of colour you want. Then use minwax wipe on poly to finish (i would use satin but gloss is good to)

If you wanna spend a little extra time...might I suggest you dye that figured maple. Like guitar builders do. Dye with a dark colour then sand . The soft wood stays dark but the hard wood sands back to near natural. then dye with your prefered finished color.
Here's a guitar I did this way. http://members.shaw.ca/stewartwright/Guitar.htm

Thanks I dig the finish on the guitar. You did a great job. I think I'll give it a shot. Was at Home Depot though and they don't carry the bright colored dye. Mostly Minwax type wood stains in brown and natural colors. I'm looking for a bright color like the green you used. Any suggestion for a good place to purchase dye? Online or brick and mortar (I'm in Denver) ? By the way Stoo, how did the guitar end up sounding?

I'm not gonna be as much help with local electronic suppliers.....I mostly order online from Mouser, Tube Depot, Tube Store, Turretboards.com, & such. eBay's been good to me for that, too. There IS a pretty cool little store in Boulder, though......J.B. Saunders (http://jbsaundersco.com) is worth a look.

Thanks man!
I'm in Canada so my sources for dye wouldn't be any help to you!
The guitar came out great. It's got the Fender neck scale and I'm a Gibson guy so it takes a little getting used to. It's VERY articulate so I use it for more of my jazz style  stuff.
