I'm using Mullard re-issues. Not the choice for headroom, but tasty overdrive.

I found this to be useful:

There are lesser known NOS tube brands, which are available at some pretty good prices. Just contact Terry Kilgore aka Tube Tramp aka Sgt Overdrive, and he'll get you real keen NOS bargains - http://mhuss.com/sgtoverdrive/ FYI Terry also used to play guitar for Dave Lee Roth.

Hi, I contacted Sgt Overdrive and he has some Saratov 81 production NOS at $35 (Not sure if this is a pair or per tube) I've never heard of these tubes. Has anyone used them? If so what do you think of them? Are the better than new production el84's?

I'm using them, sound nice. :D
He has the older, cold war military grade Saratov's, supposedly the older they are the better they're built, told me they were made for nuke subs electronics.

Yeah, I'm hearing a lot of good things about those old vintage Saratovs.
