I was reading on the Webber site that Ted preferred to use 63/37 solder as it apparently sets more quickly than 60/40 solder. Does anyone have experience with this ?

I've been lurking and wondering if anyone is using silver solder...

don't know about the 63/37 but as far as silver solder is concerned...I beleive it's melting point to quite a bit higher than tin/lead solder. Don't know if a little 40watt bench soldering pencil would do the trick.

It has a lower melting point, therefore will set up quicker. It was used in solder bath for wave soldering PCBs, don't know if thats still the case.

Silver solder has its place and this isn't it.

Just bought some 63/37; besides being smaller in diameter I can't tell the difference. Also bought a spool of silver and I'll tell you that stuff is very hard to work with. Completely gumed up a pedal I was working on. Can't recommend Silver solder.

I build for Uncle Sam and we're now using Kester 245 or 285 solder, type depending on if we need a "no-clean" flux or not. Lead-free is not allowed because of the "whiskers" (and it sucks!), silver solder has a melting point that is too high for some heat sensitive components.

I use 62/36/2 silver solder .022 dia. It sets quick and melts quick and makes clean joints. I also use the 63/37 on some things in .030 dia. clear resin.

Well I ended up getting the 63/37 for the Amp Camp, and it worked fine. I have no experience to compare it to anything else.
