Hey folks,

doing a parts audit here before the chassis arrives...and I realize something I don't have is a pilot light. The easiest findable solution is a fender style amber light....

Where do you guys find the amber pilot lights you're using on your lightning builds...

and if any of you jokers say 'from a kit' I'll stuff you into the back of one of Stephen's trinity cabs! :)

I haven't sourced them, but I'd try BBQ, Hoffman, Mojotone, TubesandMore, and Angela.

I really like the pilot light on the West Labs SE prototype amp pic on their site - not so standard issue, but I don't know where it's from.

Here is the part number for the one I use from Mouser:

607-6010M1

They are made by Chicago Miniatures and are very high quality. They come in amber, red, and green. The cost is less than $5.

funny...we ordered 100's of these 6010M1 lamps where I work, 5 years ago on first designs (spectrascopic laser gas sensing systems) and lost most in a tech transfer except for a few I nabbed......never thought then to use them in amps (was buying trad. 'Fender 6.3 lamps, holders, and jewels) until last year. BUT...I got a LOT of teflon wire outta the deal! :)
I like purple lamps and UV LEDs w/ flourescent 'plexi' translucent overlays (available from McMCarr)
interesting effect......

Antique has the square Marshall style, but they are pretty pricey.

Funny enough the square Red lamps that RatShack has aren't too pricey and are a lot nicer to work with than some of the glue down types that are around.

You can also use an LED for a pilot light. I did that in my Octal Fatness build because I had a lot of stuff in a small chassis. It's hard to see, but the LED is at the right side of the chassis face. It's made by Dialite and it is enclosed in a black metal threaded barrel with a dome shaped lense. When it's on, it's red.

I think this is my favorite amp! I just love the sound of it. 8)

There's a better picture of this type of LED in this picture: Image

the pilot light on my lightning is an illuminated powerswitch with a red neon in it, kinda like what they use on the crate blue voodoo...

it looks pretty nice and it saved having to have a separate indicator :)

Neons are almost always 120V.

Unless you buy them in Australia where they are 240V ;-)

I particularly appreciate the pilot light in the West Labs SE prototype amp photo on their website - it's not your typical issue, but I'm not sure where it came from. duck life
