Hi my plexi ( el84's )isn't quite loud enough.
It is being used on open mic nights where there are different guitars and players.
I first used it as a 1x12 in the tmb channel with a g12h anniversary and it sounded great
but it just needs a bit more volume.
Last night i tried the normal channel of my 1x12 with another 1x12 extension cab with
old 70's g12h speakers and it just didn't cut through.
I would rather use the tmb channel as it's my favourite, but need to get it slightly louder.
What is the best way of getting the most out these amps.
The other amp that was used was a 20 watt Lazy J fender type boutique amp and it
does cut through but i don't like it that much.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Use a 2X12, or preferably 4X12, cab with efficient speakers. G12H-30s or Eminence Wizards would do the trick pretty nicely.

Those old 70s G12Hs you tried may have been past their prime.

The old g12h 30's sound fantastic.
What do the eminence speakers sound like compared to the new g12h's.
I was thinking of trying BBQ speakers or tone tubby, they are expensive though.
Are you using a closed back cab or open.
Is there anything else i can try,ss rectifier or fixed bias etc,i'm still learning as i go.
Can you recommend any books that go through how to do ss,fixed bias and other mods in
general that is easy to understand.
Thanks for the input.

Yes, I love the sound of vintage G12Hs too. The Eminence Wizard is very similar to a modern G12H-30, but slightly louder. A pair of those or a Wizard with Red Fang in a 2X12 will make you sound quite a bit louder. Use a closed back for tighter bass and better cut through. BBQ and Tone Tubby speakers are expensive to get shipped over to the UK.

If you need much more volume than that, then you basically need to upgrade your amp to 36W spec. That involves a bigger pair of transformers, and either adding an additional pair of EL84s, or else changing the EL84s for a pair of EL34s.
