Built my amp at "amp camp" this year and love it. All of the controls work as they should and the sound and tone are there but......

I have noticed for a while now that I am getting what I will refer to as a phantom noise. Playing at louder volumes it periodically manifersted as a thin feedback sort of noise when I was not playing at all (tude mode, fat switch pulled, high gain). Sounded sort of like wind in the trees but metallic. After a few seconds it stopped. At clean settings when a note is hit then muted there will be an almost reverb like static like noise. It's almost like a static echo.

I have swapped out tubes and adjusted the controls to see if the problem happens only in one mode but it seems to be occuring at all settings. When playing high gain stuff it's not a real problem but when playing any subtle clean tones it is.

:? Suggestions are welcomed.

Gain max, tude, fat all pulled - feedback sound? Can you post a picture of v1 construction? There was a design change to deal with something like that . Look at the latest tramp docs.

Post pics.

Try poking (chopsticking) some of the wires around the amp, see if that does anything.

I did do a small change relocating one of the board components that had been posted on the site but I haven't changed anything on V1 since amp camp. I will check the new schematic over the weekend.

thx

Parts the same, layout may be different.

I had previously changed the 1M so it connected on the tube side of the .1uF 400V. The only thing that I notice is that I still have the shielding grounded on the wire that runs from the .1uF 400V to ground then to the 10K resistor on to pin 2. In the current layout the shielding is not grounded. Should I clip this?

No, it's really the layout of the 10K grid resistor and 330K resistor on a tg strip that was important.
How is your built?

I have the 10K connected to pin 2 and the 330K connected to pin 7 as per the diagram. I don't believe that this has changed since amp camp. Further pay testing gives me some cause to believe that this problem may be generated in the mechanics of the push/pull switching. I will do some more experimenting today.
