Sounds like the pot is wired backwards. You can rewire that now or we can just make a mental note and move on. with the pot turned down which is actually up  do you now have sound when touching pin 2?

well i'm not getting sound when the knob on 1 either... really only when its exactly in the middle...

no sound on pin 2 regardless of the position

edit, just made made contact at lug two while turning the volume knob and theres no sound at 1 then it gets louder as it should and fades complete around 9.

on that switch (tweed -tide) there are 2 resistors 220K and 22K. Do you have them swapped around? ..hmmm maybe not...

nope, double checked and they're both the correct values.

There's no dc present on any lugs on that pot right?
edit. I think we'll leave this section be for the time being. I think that since were just injecting noise at various spots, then thing maybe ok. here.
I think we should concentrate on why there's no pop at pin 2. But I gotta leave ya to it for tonight. Gotta go out.

i measured 1.7DC on the lug that the 22K resistor attaches to and the lug right above that one.

ok, thanks for all your help. :)

Just got a few minutes ... I was looking at your photobucket shots #xxxxxxx804. I don't see a wire coming from the botton of the .01uf 400V coupling cap.(C2) thats the small white cap next to the larger white cap.. This is the feed from v1a to v1b..critical!

Do you hear anything when you poke around that wire you added from the cap or lug 3?

I spent some more time studying your photos.. It looks to me that on the V1 socket you have the two plate wires reversed. ie. the wire from pin 1 should go to the turret that has the 220K on the right ( it's on the diagonal) but you have it going to the 220k on the left!
Pin 6 Should go to the resistor on the left you have it on the right.

I looked at my layout and it shows pin 1 going to left and 6 to the right... is it incorrect or am I looking at it wrong?

edit, just to clarify, you're saying the blue and white wires in this picture need to be reversed?

I just made the swap. There's sound, its weak, but its something :) But I'm not done yet. the volume control doesn't seem to have any effect, even when pulled.. the bass knob doesn't do anything but when pulled i believe fat mode is engaged. Treble doesn't work. the master volume and VRM seem to be working normally.

OK first things first.. When you say you have sound, do you actually have a guitar plugged into the input? I think you should, or at least have a guitar cable plugged in and you can just touch the tip with you finger to substitute.
Then I'm thinking we'll get the volume(gain) working next and then move to the tone controls.
You up for that!? :D This may take a while. so any time you wanna check and recheck what you've done....feel free! 8)

The sound is with a guitar plugged in. Sounds like a great way to get things working. Thanks again for helping me through this :)

You're welcome. I don't have an amp on the go myself so I'm gettin my jolies this way
Anyway you can get a nice ,in focus close up of the volume control?
While you're at it check your wiring against the color layout. See that line from the output switch connects to a resistor (22k) before it connects to the switch.

You mean the impedance switch correct? Its connected to the 22k resistor on the volume control though the 8 ohm tap (the blue wire in my pic).

 Are those dual ganged pots???! If so you need to make sure you only use one of the gangs. Ie: there are 2 sets of lugs ( right?) 1a 2a &3a and 1b2b&3b. You can use the a or the b but you cannot mix them . So... Do those 2 switch pots look like the round portion is about twice as thick a the other pots? I'm on my iPhone now so pix are small .
