My Triwatt kit arrived today, I'm thrilled to say the least. All parts are present and accounted for (apparently a 1uF cap was substituted for the 2uF, not a problem). I think I'll spend the rest of the evening studying the layout, schematic and build notes before I get started tomorrow.

Thanks Stephen, I know this is going to be good.

Way to go Koop!Take your time and make sure you lead dress is clean like a Hiwatt!!!! :P There is a ton of gain to control,so clean wiring is more crucial in a Triwatt. Have fun!

A few pics as I begin. Sorry for the poor lighting, I loaned my lights (AB400) out to a guy and need to get them back!

Congratulations koop! FYI you may find these build pictures useful to refer to, of one of my early Triwatt builds, which went to Malcolm Tan in Singapore.

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1647

Also the gut shot from the Triwatt I built for bgroup - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2156 I used a slightly different approach with this one, mainly for cosmetic reasons, so I had to use more shielded wire due to not keeping the longer wires quite so close to the chassis.

OK, a couple of pictures. I found my trusty Canon 500EX flash and managed a couple of shots before the batteries went TU. I'll get more batteries or even better, get my Alien Bees lights back. I know, the first shot (under exposed) looks like a spaghetti mess but it's OK, I know where I'm going (at least I think I do). This amp carries some serious iron!

That's so weird. They don't show for me either. I'll have to get this looked into. Those pictures should definitely be right there.

Success!!! I powered it up today.

Had one mistake that was apparent when I checked voltages. Took me a while to track it down, I had the jumper lead from the 16uF positive end to the wrong turret - it was on the 1K resistor instead of the 220K. If I hadn't put the jumpers on top of the board it would've taken a bit longer to track down. Sometimes I get so engrossed in building I don't want to stop. In this case it means I didn't take photos along the way. Oh well, there's plenty of good looking build photos available.

Played a while tonight, it sounds great. Very little noise unless I have the boost up around 11 o'clock - it starts to hum a bit from there. I'll need some time to tweak settings before I decide if it dethrones the 18 Watt sIII as my number one.

FedEx dropped off an Avatar G212 Vintage cabinet loaded with Hellatone 30 and 60 speakers today. The Triwatt through this cabinet is awesome. The efficiency of these speakers makes for a loud rig! The sound is sweet, I'm already thinking about building another for a friend that gigs four nights a week.

Congratulations!!!

Ideally, for this kind of amp you need some kind of Fane clone speakers, such as BBQ FC12s or Eminence Tonker Lites.

The head cabinet arrived today - beautiful workmanship. I used foil tape to shield the bottom of the cab, this resulted in the bright input shorting. It was a quick fix and now it sounds even better than ever. Can a beautiful home for the chassis enhance the sound (I don't think the foil tape did anything useful)?

Heh Koop!
Where'd you find the foil tape?

I got the tape at Home Depot. Most hardware stores should have it - it's used for stove pipes or heater ducting.

OH is that the aluminum stuff that comes in rolls about 5" wide?. If so.. how did you make electrical connections between the strips and to chassis?

It's less than 5" wide, more like 3". The chassis rests on it, so I'm relying on that for the connection, in essence it becomes an extension of the chassis. I may not have that right, I don't know. I'm not sure how effective my attempt at shielding is.

I have to say, my number 1 go to rig is now my Gibson CS Les Paul G0 and the Triwatt!

I think that should be quite effective. If you're worried at all, just use some steel wool to rough up the points on the metal tape where the chassis rests.
