I was thinking about adding a "power amp in" jack to bypass the preamp for the option to run other preamps directly into the power section. Has anyone done this yet? I haven't found any good guides online. Would it be as simple as running the Master Volume lead to a cliff jack before heading to the power tube, so that inserting a jack breaks the preamp circuit? Should the preamp go to ground or can it just remain open? OR does interrupting the preamp not matter as long as i have the gain and master volume controls turned all the way down when using the "power amp in"?

Thanks in advance

That should work. You could also install the jack before the power amp's volume control. The preamp output is OK to float. If you put the jack after the volume control, the volume control will provide a load for the preamp. If it's before, the tone stack will.

You might need a resistor to ground on the power amp input for a grid leak, depending on what the external preamp has on its output. Something around 1 meg should work.

It's similar to installing jacks for an effects loop. You could look for information about that.

Thanks for the info! I decided to hold off on this and just get the amp done. I can always go back and change this section easily enough.
