I started this build a year ago and finally finished with the cabs last weekend. I'm a wood noob, but it came out better than I expected and so here is my show and tell.
The sides and back are all pine. The fronts are 3/4 inch Russian Birch because that is what they had in smaller sized sheets.
The finish is oil based "golden oak" to make it look older. First it was a sealer, then stain, then 4 coats of supergloss oil varnish. The gloss was sanded and I was going to put on 4 more coats, but It looked like it fit in this state so I left it.
I can also run the lower box solo on the side with the head on top for a clean looking mini tower.
The head is 16 X 9 high and 8 deep. It's tall for el84s and 6L6.
Top box is 14 X 20 X 9.5 deep with a new 10 inch Celestion Alnico Gold 40 watt. 16 ohm
Lower box is 16 X 20 X 9.5 with a Celestion Greenback 25 watt that has seen a few years of use already. 16 ohm.
The sound is great. I've got about 10 hours on it and the Gold is breaking in nice. The balance is good with a little more from the Gold which might all be top end and mellow a bit with age. The best part is the bass. It sounds really connected and not like some strange thing lurking under the sound. Maybe this is the pine or maybe I just lucky on dimensions and the back hole. Volume level is about the same as it was with a single v-type speaker that it was running, it feels louder because the range is wider. The two speakers are very happy together and the react different during soft dynamics and tails. It's a joy to play.
There's one visual problem with the piping along the top edge of the top box being a bit pushed in. I'm going to take the front off and clean that up.
The Tramp is an awesome amp and I'm super happy with this experience and Trinity Amps.
