Fired up my Plexi build and got a puff of smoke from the 5 watt 1k5 across the standup cap. It’s done for! Hopefully I can track down a replacement locally in the next few days.

The only thing I noticed on a brief once over is I missed the cap on the standby switch (it’s very small on the layout).

UPDATE: Double checking everything I found my connections on the terminal strip for the 470R’s to the 6v6’s were on the middle post which connects to ground.

Really hoping I didn’t fry something else in the process.

(The photo below has the 1k5 resistor removed and I installed the cap I missed on the standby switch)

Yes, connecting to the ground lug of the terminal strip is an issue. Your orange wire is connecting about 370 VDC straight to ground. If you are lucky, that resistor burning up may have prevented damage to other components.

Can you measure your cap can? I would carefully go back over every single connection on the layout/schematic and mark to confirm that each is correct before you power up again.

I would also recommend you build a light bulb limiter. That would have told you something was wrong right away and likely prevented damage to the amp.

Good luck!

Yeah, I’ve gone through everything again. Both sides of the cap check out. The terminal strip mishap seems to be the only issue.

Found a replacement resistor locally and everything checks out! Putting it through its initial paces now.

Great! No issues and it sounds fantastic. Really loving the variety of tones.

I’m working on a video with a demo and documenting the process similar to my 5e3 videos. Found here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf7y ... 1r7qIiJbc6

It’s rare but not an uncommon mistake. Glad to hear it worked out. Looking forward to the video?

Any machine can be a smoke machine if you use it wrongly enough!
