Hey there fello formuites. As some of you may know I have bought a few tone tubby speakers (a pair of alnico hemp cones) that I was using in a 2x12 cab. Great tone with a differnt character when played hard vs. soft. Anyway I kept hearing about this config called "The Bomb" which is an alncio and a ceramic hempcone mixed in a 2x12. I borrowed a speaker for a day just to check it out and GEEZ...two things happend

1) I kept the ceramic 12
2) I ordered another one.

The ceramic alnico mix was sweet. As bright as any celestion with this low end warmth and thump that you don't get with other speakers. It was so sweet that I figured WTF, would be good in a 4x12 'eh? Well, I got the second ceramic hemp cone on Friday and put both of them into a Marshall 4x12 slant cab with 2 alnico hempcones in an X pattern. Wired for 16 ohms. Back not screwed on yet cuz I need to cut a bit off the top of it so the Alnicos can breath. Cranked an sIII through it and the sound was deep and bold with smooth highs. The speakers have only had a few hours on them with almost none on the last ceramic so I expect that they will smooth out as they get played.

Very nice setup for a 4x12 or 2x12 IMO. I love 2 alnico hempcons for the 18 but the 4x12 H-Bomb is stunningly good. A big sound from a small amp.

Clips to come soon.

Clippage.

Single condenser mic in 5 feet in front of the cab. My SG (crossroads pickups) and sIII TMB were used for the clip. At the beginning the the volume is rolled off at the start of the clip and is increased during a sustained not....and then the carnage begins.

Cheers

Huh? You mean these blisters I have now could have been prevented. Not feeling to hungry either?

Seriously, I have sold almost all my speakers for the tubbies. All I use now are tubbys and a pair of scumbacks.

Well Lawrence I think that 4 X 12" would sound stunning with a Wreck clone :-) Hmm, you are gonna have to speak to Stephen ;-)
