Just joined here...first post. Glad I found it! What's the general consensus of the Hurricane? Worth building or should I build the Lightning and get a trem pedal. Just by looking at the schematics it seems the Hurricane might be a little cleaner/less gain...which is what I want. I'm thinking of building it with a 6SL7 in the preamp spot...just because I'm a big fan of that tube. Probably won't sound much like a matchless when I'm done but that's ok. Probably run it with a slightly lower B+. Anyone done something similar?

I haven't built one so can't comment. Most M@tchless are pretty impressive. You could build the Lightning and then mod it for less gain. There are several mods here to do that, to reduce gain & clean it up.

Concensus is to add the cut control too.

I just put the cap on the master tonight. I've been running the cut at full, so this should take care of the hum (legin was right about that) but keep the face clean of the cut dial.
