Guys,

I saw your post on 18 watt about having some red swirl material board available..this is great for canucks like moi. My next question however is whether or not you guys have turrets you can sell and whether or not making a turret board is something you can do with a drill and some other easily acquired staking tools? I really want to be able to make a board based on my own specifications. Worth a shot to ask..

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but thanks in advance.

hoffmanamps.com has everything you need to make a turret/eyelet board.

I've never made one but, like you, I'm about to start. From what I've read, all you need to do is drill a hole and press in your choice of turret or eyelet. They suggest you use a drill press fitted with a taper, but I'm sure you can press them in with a center punch and a hammer.

Yes you can. I do that. Plus I built a simple anvil where I drilled a hole into a 'block' of steel to fit the turret, but not the turret 'flange'.

Then I put the turret in the board hole, turn it over, fit it into the anvil 'hole' and hammer away. Two taps with the center punch to start the flaring and finish with two taps on the flared turret with just the hammer, no center punch.

I use a light hammer to do this.

And I'm trying to get some a few 1000 turrets as well. :D

Yeah, its time we build up a local network for amp equipment! Turrets locally and board material would be gravy. Coco can you post some pics of your setup with the anvil? I think I have an idea of what you mean but I want to be sure. All it really seems that is happening is that you drill a hole in the board, put in the turret, and then by hammering the bottom, you are stretching the turret into the hole to hold it in place. Correct? In theory you could even use a board, drill deep enough to fit the turret, lay the board flat, hammer the bottom of the turret and presto... or i think anyway.

Corrrect, you just need the 'center punch' to start the stretching process. But I'd use a material harder than wood! Get 6" of steel bar from Home Depot or the local suppplier.

For sourcing other parts, lets start a new thread on that. Go to: viewtopic.php?p=6175#6175

Yes, like butter! And you can sand it as well. Basically, it's fibreglass.

If you do cut it with a hacksaw make sure you wear some sort of mask as the dust is not so nice to the inside of your lungs.
