I'm finished with the amp and have completed my build notes.

The amp sounds great so far, I'll have a chance to give it a workout this weekend. Fired right up!

If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the thread I wrote. please feel free to let me know.

I hope that it is useful to builders as I took the opportunity to go into a little more detail and from a fresh (i.e. nooby) viewpoint.

Now I have two issues:

I have to make up for lost practice time with my guitar

What to build next

:D :D :D

WOW! Great post. Just ordered a V6 head the other day and I will definitely be referring to your notes. I'm not a noob, but can always learn new tricks, especially since this is my first Marshallesque amp. The voltages are going to be great to have. Looking forward to your thoughts on the V30/G12H speaker combination, too. Thanks so much for all your hard work!

jcny,
Thanks for all of the hard work. I built my V6 right at new years. The voltages will be helpful. I'll measure mine this weekend and post them for comparison.

One thing I did that made my life a lot easier...

Before I started the build I took a sheet of paper and "mounted" all the resistors on it (punched a hole through the paper with one of the leads). I then labelled each one on the sheet (and double checked them with a multimeter). When I was building, I just grabbed the appropriate resistor off the sheet instead of hunting for them.

This helped the build go a LOT faster, especially when assembling the board.

I didn't bother doing that with the caps though - not as many and a lot easier to read the values at a glance.

edit: Never mind - I see you did the same thing from your build notes. I really shouldn't be reading these things at 1 in the morning!
