Just to jump back in, I've begun building the Vajra. I won the Mark Durham Giveaway Grand prize. S2 didn't have time to make it, so we agreed for him to send me a 'kit' so I could make it myself.

So I ought to find out pretty soon how the Vajra is.

If anyone would like, I'll upload the layout I just finished (and uploaded to 18watt.com last night) along with a drilling guide. The layout assumes you're using Heyboer transformers on an 18 watt style chassis.

It's still a drag 18watt.com closed shop...

I removed the layout. I updated it and since 18watt is back on line, you can check the new version in my Gallery there.

Thank you very much,
You'll have to excuse me, I'm putting the chassis parts together for the EF-86. :D I kinda get lost in thought :D
Did you really fit all that in the Brownnote chassis? How? That board looks HUGE! I remember from your original thread that you went with a brownnote chassis, as it was smaller.

Again, thank you,
Jac

Oops, wrong amp.
I wanted this one very much too. :?
That's what happens when you build at your computer desk
So many amps to build, so little time. :D :D :D :D
Do have a question already though, as I take a break.
Why is the 1st terminal on the terminal strip grounded? Seems pointless as it doesn't connect to anything.

Just the way they're made. Some stips aren't. You have to be careful not to attach a power line to it!

Coco, as long as your here.
If you saw , I'm going to use the 270fx hammond for now. You think that's to much voltage for the lite. Maybe I should change to an octal rectifier( drill it). Before I get to far? To bring down possible additional voltage.
What do you think?

Just ignore it. That's what I get for reusing another layout! Plus as coco says, they're always grounded.

Yes, You should drop some voltage IMO.

I got some of those anti-vibration rings off a guy on eBay. I don't remember who exactly it was. Also, why doesn't someone try out some 6BR7s. You can use them like EF86s, but they're resistant to microphonics. Just beware that they have a different pinout, so you have to change the socket wiring.

I have just put an amp together with the Vajra EF86 channel at the front and Phils P1x power amp running a EL34. It sounds sweet but I have to work on a second stage gain area as it could do with a little more poke. Pictures/clips coming later in the Dressing Room.
Nigel :)

You have time to do that? Impressive. Looking forward to your build notes / clips. You should start a new thread on developing that one. What are you calling it??

So this would have three tubes? EF86, 12AX7, EL34?

Stephen yes that is what it will end up with, I am currently running just the EF86 and EL34, at mid levels it has a great jazzy vibe with just a hint of crunch, I want to get that same sound but lift the gain a tad and I am thinking a half a 12AX7 may do the trick. I will have to think of a new mythological creature.
