Which amp parts do you find are the hardest to source?

Can Caps? Pots? Turret board? Turrets? Coupling Caps?

What?? Looking for suggestions.

Cabinet wood. Beleive it or not.

Living downtown with no car doesn't help either. Toronto is supposed to be the hub of the universe isn't it???

5/8" ply that doesn't suck. That's all I want, is that too much to ask?

Problem solved.

Went to Ikea today. I found some 5/8" 'shelf board'. Solid wood, straight, knot free, staggered strips construction. $5 per plank 30" x 11" IIRC. Pretty nice stuff. They've got a selection of different sizes too. Can build almost any cab for 20 bucks. I'm almost sorry I'm gonna cover it in tolex.

On the topic of 'real parts' filter caps and cap cans are WAY too expensive.

In the Toronto Area, you can get 3/8" & 5/8" Baltic Birch Ply at Exotic Woods in Burlington. 1/2" & 3/4" at Home Despot.

Right on! Good to know. For a while I was considering ordering from a US online wood retailer. Exotic Woods will cut, plane, sand, and ship almost anything.

Hmm... I don't think it's actually what your able to get or not. It's finding a single source with reasonable price's. As I search the internet for a decent price for this capacitor or this carbon comp, I end up buying from "them" because of this price and "them" for this price. Then as I tally up all shipping I'm really never saving any money. So I'm always back to square one. So if someone  was to have reasonable prices at the start. They  would make a profit with volume. Because word would spread. And of course the first to do this wins   .
Have a good day

Is there anyone in Canada that sells turrets? Or do we have to buy these from the US?

Cheers, Bryce.

While not in the turret biz, we can help you out if you dont want 000's of them. email. You can also get them from Electrosonic and Digi-Key at

Look for Tubular (Hollow) Turret Series, Keystone 1540-4 Single or 1509-4 double.

That's what I hate. Try to source your own parts, shipping kills you. Because no matter what noone has ALL the parts you need.
Sucks!
Later,

Regarding the plywood thing, what you want to ask for is "voidless ply." They won't have it at Home Depot or Lowes, but every town has a lumber yard because of cabinet shops with a healthy stock of voidless ply.

I hear you. IMO, kits make sense for some people. Shipping can add $25-$50 to the cost. Getting it into another country is even more expensive. And then you might get the dreaded "COURIER" expenses. And hopefully you order all the right parts too!!
