jac,
Have ya disconnected the tranny and tried a run up with the variac , yet?
Please be careful when you do tho. It can bite you HARD. Watch those loose ends. Lots o' volts.

okay disconnected all loads off and ready.

Now how exactly am I doing this :?: Am I just slowly turning the variac up and constantly checking voltages :?: Rereading the Jack Darr book, if I see smoke it is internally shorted, so I'll gather if I reach 90v and it smokes, then that's it
Any other specific tests I should be applying here :?:

Thanks guys,
Jac

CAREFULLY check your voltages on the secondaries. It's prolly best to clip the leads with gator clips and back away. With a nekkid tranny (no rectification) you should be reading A.C.

Happy Easter all to those that celebrate.

Okay, well stomach is twice the size it was and we're back to the amp.

I have the tranny at 50v I'll let it set for 10-15 min and then test. No smoke as of yet.

Well, turned it up and here comes the heat and smoke. I do think she be fried :(
Stephen, there is/was no contact of wires against the chassis.

I have an old "Merit" radio power tranny laying around. Specs are:

325-325v @ 70MA
5V @ 3A
6.3V @3.5A

Think I could pop this in :?:

jac,
Bummer about the tranny. Any chance of warranty? As for the Merit tranny, you'll need to ask coco. I'm pretty sure that you'll need to shed some voltage.
On a brighter note , Happy Easter, jac! And many , many more.

Not recommended. We'll get the tranny sorted out for you. Just sent instructions.

Okay,
We're ready to start again.

Had to stop again. 2 guitars to setup, 1 to repair and 2 xlr cables to make (I make the best of course)
Need that under the table money :D
So I'll start taking pics from this point on.
Later

Okay here's the 1st set of pics. At this point I decided to redo the 68k network @ V1. I didn't like the way I originally did it. This is much better. I also refloated all solder points on the turret board. kinda of bummer because I have some blobs now. Not bad, just bothers me.
This is all being done in preparation for the new tranny. I want everything perfect.
So now I'm going to start testing the tranny. Make sure everything 's okay.
I'll be testing the tranny at each point , as I hook up the power section and take a pic at th3 same time.
Eventually I'll have a complete pictorial of the power section build
:D
Gotta get the pics in order though, duh

Also, as I said, here's 4 shots of my electronic room. Please excuse the mess, still have some more boxes to go thru. I have alot of parts to fit in a very confined area. But it's fun :D

Get some pic's of my wood shop eventually. Not done yet. :D
Later, Jac(edit)
I forgot, I also finally placed the Trinity build guide in a folder. I'll bet because of the move I had to put that back together a dozen times
So I had to take a pic :D
Also, Just had a "almost got the room together party". Ha ha, Always have to have a reason for a party (jam)(3 guitarist's in this little room, nice))

new question,

for the boost switch
As I researching the boost.
Coco, your showing the V6 to have a 6-pin jack with 2 connections.
one to the boost (the 22uf and 2k7) and one to pin 3 of V2.
The current layout, for the sIII, shows no connection for the switch.

I'm currently using a 4-pin and have 1 connection to the boost (22uf and 2k7), I'll be using a footswitch.

Should I go get a 6-pin and have the connections as shown in the V6 :?
Thanks in advance,
Jac

jac,
When you show your room on the internet forums you stand the chance that someone like me will see something about your life that might embarass you and they'll be sure to point it out.
Are you saving Budwieser cans for a project or did the jam session go that well?
Looks like you've got some neat gear. 8)
Wish I had a drillpress.
Your Trinity manual matches your cabinet from S2.

The drill press is great Man can I build turret boards easy, Wait till you see the wood shop. :D
As far as someone seeing part of my life. Oh well, at this point all I have to care about is amps, it's a great thing

Didn't think of that, it does match :D :D :D

The info is on the next page of items for this forum under "Hot rodding the sIII" or, if this works:

viewtopic.php?t=657&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

About half way down is a good picture.

When I did this for my nephew's sIII, I had to drill a hole and add a post on the board, OK I bent a piece of house wiring into a loop and crimped it, to locate the end of the resistor / cap addition.

Hope this helps :D

jac,
I put the boost switch as coco drew it in the v6 documents. I believe that he used vactrols to control the switching with a footswitch. Let me look it over and get back to you. It was only availible in his builds not i his kits if I recall correctly.

EDIT: have a look at this thread. You were there , too.
