I have recently converted my sIII over to a v6 version - has anybody found in 6V6 mode the overall volume is quieter than when in EL84 mode?

Was playing with mine yesterday and while I LOVE the sound of the 6V6s - the volume certianly was less (not that that is a bad thing for me as I use an attenuator).

As a note I am using mismatched tubes in both sections  - that will be rectified shortly!

Yes, I did. I haven't tried tweaking for more gain as yet. From what I gather, there are some changes that can be done to the PI to drive the 6V6's harder.
I've also considered swapping to 36 watt trannies and running both pairs of tubes tpgether. I understand that you get the best of both , creamy smooth clean bottom from the 6v6 and glassy highs from the EL84's.

My issue is that I wouldn't want any more distortion w/ the 6V6s - I love the tone of them (especially throught the Tone Tubby!). Just really wanted to be sure I hadn't messed something up in there.

The 36 watt tranny idea is really interesting though!

I'll throw another one at you that has had me puzzled....

Does anyone else find that when rolling back the volume on their git to get a cleaner tone you get wayyy more bass? It really ruins rolling back my volume knob for me. Now that wouldn't have me perplexed other than when I play my buddy's '73 50 watt this does not happen at all! Is hould mention that regardless what git I use I get the same thing (single coil or humbucker).

Id this just a big amp thing? ... Good thing I have my JTM45 trannies!

I haven't noticed the bass going up when the volume is rolled back. I'll have to try it this weekend and report back to you.
