So you know, this was the switch over amp. where they finally decided to allow rock and roll. The amp has 6L6 tubes. Right now I have my RCA 6l6's in her. I wasn't going to include them in the sale. But.... one never knows.
The trannys are HUGE and clean as a whistle. as is the amp. She is heavy.

:D :D Are you drooling yet :lol:

Forgot, she is , of course, all original.
Coco, can you please switch this over to the Want ads.
Thank you,
Later,
Jac

Okay guys,
It was nice while it lasted.
Could not find the screws, damn move, so went out and bought some. Speakers hooked in She's playing. the sIII channel goes down in 30 seconds.
So.... I've been studying everything trying to figure out wtf :shock:
I've been looking at your troubleshoot thread and I came up with this. Now I have not implemented anything yet.:
1st I had popping at 1 point. Now I just have nothing. Ya think I have 1 of those 500pf bad caps?
2nd here's an important one. I wired the .0047uf from the tone pot on the Normal channel to the bus bar according to the color layout.
Now, according to your troubleshooting thread and your 11 x 17 non-color layout. I should have wired the .0047 to the tone and volume pot :shock:
What's up with this? would either of these be cause for the sIII channel to shut down. Am I supposed to change this ? :?

Nothing on the Tone/Vol of the Normal channel should impact the sIII. That bad 500pf cap would probalby not cause a total loss of volume.

Is the normal channel still working? If so, try an altternate V2.
If not, check things again you dont want to blow an OT! :shock:

Voltage measurements??

No!
The normal channel's working.
It's the sIII that keeps dying. What about the .0047 tha t is attached differently from your troubleshooting?
Should I change it?

Thats on the Normal channel. For that I just changed the location of the ground. No effect on the sIII channel.

Sounds like a solder connection. Get out the chopsticks and touch all the connecting the sIII channel, hoping you'll get a noise when a bad connection is touched.

Try another tube in V2. What are the voltages on v2 - are they close to spec? Is the other half of V1 OK?

The PI is apparently working so it should be V1 or V2 &/or sIII channel circuitry.

Voltages:

no tubes:

EZ81: P1&7 - 429.4VAC
HEATER WIRES: 3.26 for each wire
3.21 for all filaments

with recto in:

EZ81: P1&7 - 308.0 VAC
B+: 308.0 V
V1-V3: P1&6 - 42.2 VDC
V4-V5: P7 - 42.1VDC

V4 - P3: 11.6/ P7 - 333.5/ P9 - 330.9
V5 - P3: 17.8/ P7 - 337.6/ P9 - 331.2

testing preamp, but touching pins 1&6 on V3 cause's major hum the minute you touch the probe.
I'll put the results up in a few.

6= 151.2
8= .152.2

*V2*

3= 1.08
6= 257.0
8= 162.6

3= 190.6
6= 178.3
8= .86

Now how do I fix?

jac,
did you use the jumper from pin 3 to pin 8 ?The voltages should be almost exactly the same.
viewtopic.php?t=752&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
Look at the forth pic from the top. There's an orange jumper from pin 3 to pin 8.

have to pull board, but I'm pretty sure that's okay. The problem is @pin 7 V3 to that turret and then including the .01uf lead. stops after that. Voltages are definitely off there

I know :shock: :shock: :shock: I don't want too, but I think it's necessary. I'm thinking when I refloated all the turrets that something dropped out or disconnected.
That line shouldn't be microphonic like that. and I can't see anything on the surface.
Oh well, sucks to be me. But I'll keep trying.

On another note. I got 1 of the 1st of 5 old stereo's promised to me.
It's a beauty Dual 6AQ5A, 6x4 and a 12AX7A, Very nice. also has balance tone volume treble with concentric Carling pots . Sprague caps and 3 OT's (5 speaker system) :shock: Change some caps add a OT. The chassis' great. Plenty of room. Add a shell.
Free cool guitar amp :D :D :D Nice
