I used to work for epiphone and I can NOT picture them putting ANY type of good speaker in ANYTHING that they put out the door so the eminence was more than likeliy put in as an after market thing by the owner of the amp. I played a so cal 50 at my local same ash and it was the BIGGEST piece of junk but it does need new caps and the store will not fix it..

I guess it comes stock with lady luck speakers.

I'm seeing good reviews for the Blues Custom (granted... it's at harmony central) Anyone else?

IIRC, there's a thread on the Blues Custom on TGP where the owners final conclusion was that the Emi "Lady Luck" speakers were clean and bright, and not particularly toneful. The description made me wonder if they were originally designed for modeling amps.

Hey, no worries. I never thought much of them either. I tried a stock valve junior at an L&M and was totally turned off.

I wasn't dismissing your opinion either, just looking for more.

what makes me ssssssssoooooooooo MAD!! is this whole amp line was MY idea!!!! I suggested it when I worked there and they just blew me off!! I said why not build amps in china you already have factories over there and you could outsource right there in china.. at the time they said it wasn't cost effective and it would be a big hassle on quality etc etc etc. so what do they do?? 2 yrs after I quit they turn around and take my idea!!! its run by a bunch of country bumpkins!! YES I AM MAD!!!!!!

Interesting bit of history there bibleboy3. Just out of interest, do you know if Harley Benton (UK/EU) and Legacy (Oz) are part of the Gibson/Epiphone empire? Those badged amps are identical to Epi and was wondering if they were produced in house or whether they were from a separate company in China. I like the styling of the larger amps in the range.

Regarding 18watt, there was a change of heading on the 9th June stating housekeeping was underway. I'm figuring that the mods will wait until sewatt etc are up and running before opening again.

the legacy is a Carvin product here in the states some people call it the Vai amp because carvin worked closely with Steve Vai in the design of the amp. as for the Harley Benton I can not say yes or no as to it being a Gibson product...

as for 18watt they are going to loose a lot of people from all this.. I know myself I have found other sites like this site, SLO- clone and a few others and I DO NOT see myself returning to 18watt. ok let me put it this way I am thinking about not ever returning to 18watt out of sheer protest and I would encourage others to do the same...

The 18 watt forum was an inspiration to a lot of people to build thier own amps. It may have become a victim of it's own success with the BBQ fiasco, whatever precipitated this closure and some ugly politics.

I'm not sure how it will re-invent itself or if it can ever regain the original 'charm' but I think people will give it a chance to do so.

Wicksy,
maybe it woulld motivate them to get off their duff and DO some thing to fix the problem!!! maybe I would be a little more understanding if they would keep people informed but they don't!!! so I have found other sites to fill th void that 18watt has left.. keeping everybody in the dark only makes them frustrated.

Well, I sent a question and I got an email from Graydon and they are working on it, so be patient. The plan IS to return. Meanwhile, enjoy the company at your new friends places!

Zaphod Phil? I think he's checked in here, and he seems to have been active at AX84.

Enjoy the 'New' 18watt.com but do keep in touch! It was our pleasure to give everyone a place to hang.

Y'all come back now! :D
