Has anyone designed a lightning power section with just one el84? What would that look like? :)

thanks Jac,

I was thinking of something like a 2nd channel on a vjr or putting the channels from a tc-15 in front of a vjr power amp. Am i out in left field or is that even possible?

thanks

That would be like an AC4 with the lightning front end. Quite doable. I have thought about that actually. Just need some play time!

I am new to amp building and i'm trying to understand this stuff. On the tc-15 schematic, is v3 the pi? It looks like each channel goes into a different side of v3 and is fed to opposite tubes in the power amp. Help me understand the flow.

thanks

Hey Rick

I know how you feel. Thankfully I think I've learned a lot in the past few months about circuits. V3 is the PI, but I can't tell you about the flow.

Hi Guys, I'm building the TC right now :D I do believe V4 is the PI. , because the EF86 is V1. Take alook at the PI circuitry. It flows towards V4, not V3.
Can't wait till I'm done. This is TC-15 # 2. :D Going to be great,.

jac,

are we looking at the same schematic? tc-15-7Jun07? i see the ef86 as v7 and v4 is one of the el84s. I probably don't have the right schematic.

Right. Jac's looking at the tube layout from side to side. The only reason I didn't say V4 was because I checked out that schem. The phase inverter on the schem is where the 47K, 1M, 1.2k, and 1M resistors meet to make a cross.

Your looking at the right schemo, but your reading it backwards. The layout or schemo has the tubes at the bottom. V1 is the EF86. Looking at it from that angle you'll see the difference :D
Got it?

Jac, he's actually reading it right. The schem (at least the one available right now in the TC-15 docs) lists the EF86 as V7. A little strange, but it's what the schem lists it as.

Rick, I'm going to a wedding rehearsal right now, but I'll identify what I can when I come back later this evening. But if anyone else wants to, go for it!

Is the TC-15 the dual channel w/ef86 and the Trinity 15 the single channel original?

thanks

On the TC-15 Schematic, is v2 wired as cascade gain stage? It would be v3 on the layout. And how is v1 (schematic), v2(layout) wired? Sorry if the question is hard to understand.

thanks

Hey man

You're correct about the TC-15 and Trinity 15 differences. I don't understand the second question. Sorry I never got back about the signal flow of the amp.

Yes, the Trinity15 is the original Trinity 15. TheEF-86 channel is very close to the AC15 [specially with the correct contour setting  ]

i'd love to see a lightning 5w. i'm looking to do a new low watt build soon, since my 18w is overkill for my bedroom playing in my apartment. i'm getting frustrated, i can't ever play the amp at a decent toneful volume.
