Greetings all,

I have been using my 18 watt Trinity TMB quite a bit lately due to my FDR on the fritz. I've noticed that I don't have as much headroom as the 22 watt Deluxe Reverb (obviously).

Do any of you think that a quick speaker mod (I currently have a Cel Greenback in the 18 watter) would give me some more headroom - I realize that there will be tonal differences.

Any suggestions?

I dont think the speaker will make much headroom difference. The Celestion is pretty woody though.

The TMB is very gainy /distorted to start with. Might be an idea to turn that into an sIII and regain some headroom or drop the gain on V2 ad tad. Try an AT7 in V2 maybe

BTW, you can try it with a 212 Tone Tubby bomb if you want.

Hi Stephen,

The sIII mod may be the ticket. I may take you up on that!

I have a gig Tuesday and was hoping for a quick fix so I'll try the V2 tube swap.

The band I'm playing with is a hair too loud so was looking for a temp fix. Even though I'll be mic'd, at rehearsal my guitar was breaking up a bit too much for the material chosen (hence the reason I use an A/B box between the DR and the TMB)

Will the tube change using this V2 swap drastically change tone?

Tone no but you'll have to turn it up more to get the 18 watt break-up though. Try it at home first. If you're not using the normal channel much, you can replace v1 instead.

I'll give it a try... it should be fine for the 1 gig...

You;ve got me thinking about the sIII.
I noticed a lot of sound bites here in the forums... any direct comparisons of the TMB and sIII?

Hey JD, If you want more headroom without tweaking the amp the you kinda HAVE to move away from the Greenbacks. They are the 'Glorious Crunch" speaker and, as such, break up quickly. If you want more headroom you should move to a heavy magnet speaker like the G12H30. It breaks up a little later than the M25. You can also try the tone tubbies. They hang together pretty good as well.
