Ok first few shots - I'm hoping for at least a bit of sleep tonight; I have a four hour exam tommorow... good thing I had this amp to give me an excuse not to study! :P

Heres the result of my first work session:

Edit - Apparently my web host isn't working anymore... :( I'll find a way to get them up tommorow. Get some sleep fellow rockers!

Ok; so the cap that goes to pin1 V2 is labeled on the schem as .00015uf. The smallest value cap i've got is .0005uf...but that is for the tone contour. I also have a .0015uf cap; would it be safe to assume the .0015 cap is labeled wrong on the BOM? It's labeled as a 152k Cap.

Pics are coming through now for some reason. Use the .0015 cap.

Didn't get to work all weekend; too much tailgating to do. :)

Got quite a bit done in the last few hours however. Lots of pics tommorow. I only have the EF-86. cliff jacks, and two more pots to wire up and thats all she wrote on this big guy.

I'll have it finished next time i sit in front of her. 8)

This build was more difficult then the sIII; but with my experience is was much less frustrating, much more relaxing, and MUCH less time consuming. I just put on the grateful dead; went into a trance, and woke to the smell of cooling solder with dreams of the perfect tone ringing through my head. 8)

Got all fired up;

Have a cold joint somewhere i'm going to reflow the whole thing today.. otherwise it runs great; awesome sound. I have to get myself to unplug it so i can fixthe joint! Voltages are a bit out of whack too I think im getting alot more overdrive than was inteneded... I've went over the layout already and everything seems set up right so far. hopefully i'll find a mistake when im reflowing the joints.

Oh; and I think when i make my next amp i will put the jumper wires on the top of the PCB. I was worried I may have lost one and i had to remover the whole PCB (while it was wired up) to check! Luckily it was OK; but i realized that if i need to service those wires i will have to rewire most of the amp. Running over the top will completly eliminate that risk for me. :)

I have tons of pics... just no time. I have been very busy this week. I'll get them up soon i promise!

Way To Go! Another TC-15. Congratulations! :D

This is a high gain amp and very touch sensitive so if you play/stroke it hard, you're going to get plenty of overdrive. Try backing off on the git vol, using the low input and play it gently. Play with the master vol too. Leave it off and use the volume only.

Also, depends on which channel. If on channel 1, it will depend on your choice of EF86. Some tweaking of the values on that side may be necessary. There is a discussion on EF96 re: a DC-30 on the forum somewhere.

Well done!

Hey Steve; if it is indeed running right then i think i am happy; the sound is terrific. I am just thinking something is off because of the the volts i am running ( i was thinking about not searching for a missed connection; as that would mean i keep the crunch). Ill post the voltages up on this and my 18w soon hopefully. As for EF-86; i got a tung-sol EF-806...(EF-86's are NOT easy to find!) i'll look for the thread asap.

Overall I think this amp will get more play then the 18w. They are such different beasts though its really unfair to compare them.
