Hi all,

Howdy all. New guy here.

I see the TC-15 is based on the Matchless, right? I have been reading some comparsions to the Lightnings and seems favorable and that's cool.

My preference is for the Spifire however and was wondering how the TC-15 compares to an actual Spitfire. I see the tone controls are more like a Lightning, so can a Spitfire type tone be had from a TC-15?. I kinda like the simplicity of the Spitfire. I like EL-84 amps as direct as possible kinda like the GA-5 (I know lower wattage) reissues etc. 15 watts is loud enough for any thing I'll do. But I like less stuff in between my fingers and the speaker, if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Or does Trinity make a Spitfire clone (so to speak).

The Spitfire is cleaner in general compared to the Lightning. Both have the nice VOXy, jangly, chimey sound. Except forthe tone controls, they are pretty well identical amps.
It is a much simpler design and a people who build them seems to like them. It uses one less tube as well and would make a good beginner project.
Both are single channel designs.

The TC-15 in contrast, is a 2 channel design with an EF86 channle and closer to an AC/DC-30 & AC15 all at 15+ watts in one amp. It is more complicated that the Spit, the Lightning and the 18 watters.

No Spit clone happening but there is a layout here.

Thank you.

I wish I could solder, but alas I also have no tools. I may try and find someone local who can solder and follow a schematic. Or buy a GA-5 twice!

or save 2000 bucks for a real spitfire - but they seem so simple. Maybe Ceri@tone is the way to go. Or go for a elctronics course at a local college and build one myself.

Thanks again,

Joe

oh I have another question regarding shielding, but I'll save that for another time.
