Hi,

Total newbie here, so forgive the simple question. I'm very impressed with the clips I've heard of the Trinity TMB and think it would be great to build one.

My question is, can you get decent tones, crunch and sustain at lower volumes, or do you really to push the amp to get the best tones? I'm a hack trying to play old 60's and 70's classic rock at home. I currently have an Emery Superbaby that I run into an external 1X12 with a Greenback, so I know that even 5 to 10 watts can be loud.

So, any thought or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

I'll leave the question on playing quietly to the players.

But check out some ideas on attenuation:

This is promising, LeeMo says it works well:

Made one and it works decent & is external:

Other options:

It's time to address this once & for all

Realisticaly, even a 5 watt Valve Jr. is going to get you in trouble with the neighbors in an apartment and damage your hearing if you wind it up too frequently. My 18 watt sIII is ridiculously loud, but it still sounds pretty good at reasonable volumes. To be honest, I still haven't had it up much above 3. Having said that, like Stephen said, a lot of people have decent luck with attenuation. Most posts I have read say it colors your tone somewhat, but the benefits may outweigh the drawbacks. Also, don't forget that getting a speaker with less efficiency can cut down on the volume too!

Hope that helps some!
