Out of curiosity, does one or your Pt's handle this amp?

Coco's pt and ot will both work fine for the tt. The only thing is coco's pt only has one voltage tap to choose from. Correct me if I am wrong .You would only have the 15watt and not the 7watt option. I believe brown note pt has dual voltages taps which would work for both the 7/15 modes. Feel free to edit this coco if I am stepping on your toes here:)

Brown Notes PT taps are 290v and 215 v. If I decided to do one of these I probably would not bother with the 7/15 switch. Your current transformers would work great in the Tiny terror

Coco if you wanted to do an orange amp that would fit in with your current amps I would look at the no longer in production AD15.It is a TMb,single input, single channel amp. It is basically like Phils designed 18watt SuperLite TMB amp. The schematic for the AD15 is at the orange field guide site under the tech 4 mods page.

I would be interested in doing either one of these. Phils Superlite has been built by others and they say it is a gain monster. Both are great canidates for modding to taste.

Yes but, the reason for this, is the absolute cool option of switching between Class AB and A Going for the 7/15 switch or any other cool option.

It doesnt switch between class A and class AB, it just switches power. I believe the whole thing runs in class AB whatever power its at...according to the Aiken Amps stuff posted on page 1.

That's subjective, as the 7 watts for this amp goes into Class A territory. I do realize that Orange advertises the Terror as a Class A and it is indeed a Class AB.

Comon Martin, No debate over the Class "A" We could start a whole new thread on this.
By the way the Mullard amps you just built, I have the book for those designs. Some really nice designs in the book.
Are you going to put a layout for everyone of what you changed? I'd like to see what you changed in comparison. Going from Hi-fi to guitar.

Hey curious, did you make those cabs for your amps?

Well, not wishing to drag out the Class A thing, but I'm pretty sure that dropping the B+ at the lower power setting does not convert the amp into Class A. I've done this mod using an Ampmaker OT on my 18w, and in all honesty, the sound is less Class A with a lower voltage.
And it is not subjective. Classes are clearly defined.
And........who cares?
Orange are very naughty for misleading people.

Not sure about the Mullard yet. The layouts I've ended up with are less than optimal, and I need to erradicate some motorboating that persists...I haven't got round to it yet. If I built another, I would probably start from scratch, layout wise.
They do make good amps that are different from the usual P1 or 18W variations. The 3-3 is cleaner than a P1 , but distorts more warmly at the top end, very Vox like. Sounds awesome with a pedal driving it.
The 5-10 produces a totally unique sound, like nothing else. The best comparison would be an AC15, hot-rodded by adding an extra EF86 gain stage!

Morning Jac! Yes, it's 9.15 am here.

I made some of the cabs from scratch, others I bought as bare wood cabinets form Ampmaker (which are made by Reason I believe) and the 36W is a modded Marshall JTM600 box.

I'll be making all my own cabs in future, now that I know how easy it is.

First off let me say what a huge help this site has been in helping me understand the innr workings and construction of tube amps.

I have been following this thread and had a couple of questions:

What type of Power transformer should I be looking for? I didn't notice any voltages listed on the schematic.

Secondly, (and probably more off the beaten path) would using one of the Hammond 1608 OTs make a good transformer? I would like the freq response slightly lower to allow for me to crank a bass through it for home use.

Again, thanks for the help already, and if anyone could shed just a tad more light on these questions, I'd be much abliged.

I can only say that our PT is 290 VCT and I read it would work fine, our OT is 8K and 5K and with EL84, that would be fine too. My limited experience with Hammond OTs is not stellar, but some people love them FWIW. The PT are good but I had one that was way off printed spec too. Totally mislead me. Again, FWIW.

Maybe martinw will chime in again as he may have built this.

Do you know if your transformers will operate in the 30-30k ranges like the Hammonds?

Does it have the additional secondary tap for the 15/7 watt ability?

I'd like to nail down both of those features if possible.
