What you're describing there is basically the Brown Deluxe, another classic from the early Fender amp days.

If you want cleans, the mods we do to the PI & coupling caps will get you into that region , using a 5E3 Tweed circuit as a start. But you'd have to choose a single coupling cap value. We went with .022 and removed the PI 25uf bypass cap andadded a 470K PI smoothing resistor.

One added thing would be to get some NFB around the output, something like this to go from normal Tweed to clean.
