Everything I possibly can gets routed and soldered on the build fixture prior to ever seeing a chassis. The tube sockets do have to be bottom mounted. The sockets I'm using here can be top or bottom mounted, and fit the same panel cutout and dimensions as a standard chassis with no mods. Everything besides the transformers can be done in advance and folded into the chassis in one piece. I have a solution for prewiring the transformers as well, but it's not really worth it for those last few wires IMO, unless for some reason I wanted to test the amp on the jig first as well. Working on a fixture gives me way better control, I could make a thousand of these amps and they will all be identical, plus it saves my fingers for playing!! I used this same approach on my 18 watt as well...!
