What do you think?? Do they Suck??

Can your hear a difference in the tone of your amplifier when a tube shield is removed?
Any examples of how they changed the tone?
Do you use them??

Apparently, a ferrous metal shield causes a magnetic field which affects the flowing electrons which in turn affect the tone.

Fact or Fiction?

In Tube Amp Talk for the Guitarist and Tech By Gerald BBQ he says the same thing. Makes sense to me. But how else are you supposed to hold yer tubes in upside down?

Check this out.

Page from his book.

They are pretty tight fit but I'd not want to trust them. The bear clamp type for octals are not available for 9 pin AFAIK.

What about the wire EL84 retainers? Surely they make short versions for 12a*7's. IIRC my Peevee Delta Blues has 'em.

I've sniffed a lot of corks in my time but I always put the tube retainers on. It's safer that way.

Just saw your post, jcny. I have as much snow as coco. But, admittedly, more parking space.

Well, ya know, you should give a little time before the prise is awarded.
Here ya go:
http://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/item.a ... id=4005007

That will give you a much better price, as I imagine you have an account.
Later,
Jac

I wonder if they (Mojo) just stated carrying these, because I don't remember seeing them before. Maybe alot of people are starting the trend towards these, instead of the traditional shields.
:D Thoughts that make you go "Hmmm".
